The Acting Chief Executive and Registrar is Dr Sipho Kabane.

The Office performs the following duties:

• While Council members formulate overall strategy and policy, the Registrar and his executive managers are responsible for day-to-day decisions and management of staff
• As the Accounting Officer of the CMS, the Registrar has the ultimate responsibility for financial management of the CMS and compliance with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA)
• Develop strategic alliances and cooperation with key stakeholders
• Coordinate all the activities of the various cost centres at the CMS
• Inform the public, stakeholders and the media of the work of the CMS
• Promote the image of the Registrar, staff and the work of the CMS
• Promote understanding of the medical schemes environment by trustees, beneficiaries and the public
